ALPHABETICA at the IMISCOE Annual Conference
NewsAt the 23rd IMISCOE Annual Conference (Girona, 29 June–2 July 2026), the ALPHABETICA project presented two papers showcasing insights from the PLURART pilot at Institut Escola El Viver in Catalonia. Denise Holguín (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) and Cristina Rodríguez (Institut Escola El Viver) presented the paper ‘Moments of Crisis as Opportunities for Intercultural Learning and Epistemic Repair in Arts-Based Educational Projects’. Claudia Vallejo Rubinstein (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) and Miriam Salazar Alcántara (Institut Escola El Viver) presented the second paper, titled ‘Arts-Based and Plurilingual Pedagogies for Epistemic Justice in Migration Contexts’.
Together, the presentations explored how arts-based and plurilingual pedagogies can foster intercultural learning, educational inclusion, and epistemic justice in migration contexts.
Drawing on creative workshops inspired by cultural traditions and artistic practices, the studies highlighted how children’s linguistic and cultural repertoires can become valuable educational resources, promoting agency, belonging, and mutual recognition. They also examined how moments of uncertainty and pedagogical tension can serve as opportunities for collective reflection, intercultural dialogue, and epistemic repair.
The presentations contributed to ongoing discussions on the transformative potential of participatory arts-based education in culturally diverse school settings.
