BatS

IN A NUTSHELL

Full name: From the back to the stage
Main aim of the action: co-create solutions to foster civic engagement
Pilot implementation: Turin (Italy)
Target age group: young people aged 16-18 and adults
This pilot aims to promote participation in civic activities at city level of young people with a migratory background, by analysing attitudes towards initiatives focussed on values, cultural awareness, civic behaviour, and co-creation of ideas to promote inclusion, social cohesion, and cultural awareness among both young migrants and city-stakeholder.
Through focus groups and semi-structured interviews, the research partners intend to acquire in-depth understanding of the situation of young migrants in terms of their participation and civic involvement out of their comfort zone in their ethnic associations and/or in their peer-group. They will go beyond the state of the art by bridging a gap in research and providing a solid base for teaching practices, fighting cultural isolation and the promotion of cultural awareness.

What is expected to be reached by this pilot action?

ACTIVATION
The needs and skills for becoming active citizens, as well as youth leaders, in the welcoming societies will be described, which will enable these individuals to develop cultural projects devoted to combating discrimination and promoting cultural awareness.
COLLABORATION
The collaboration of key players such as administrators, teachers with long experience in multicultural schools, and representatives of both cultural and ethnic associations help the research team in identifying the lack of skills and the obstacles to engage youth with a migratory background in cultural activities and in being civic involved.
CATALYST
The co-creation experience and the lessons learned will help go beyond the state of the art by bridging a gap in research and providing a solid base for teaching practices, fighting cultural isolation and the promotion of cultural awareness.
The final outcome of this pilot action will be a learning path to develop some basic skills useful to organise, manage and promote cultural events devoted to raising the voice of young migrants. An interview template will also be created to gather thematic and biographical data.
